The question of the unity of a musical work

Roman Witold Ingarden

pp. 123-136

Abstract

As a conclusion to my investigations I wish to discuss two issues that are important to the philosophical notion of a musical work. The first concerns the question of its unity or wholeness, while the second is a matter of its identity, to which I have already referred, and the manner in which this identity can be demonstrated in the multiplicity of its specific performances and our perception of them.
