From Descartes to Kant

František Novotný

pp. 449-484

Abstract

The impact of the the new science which was started by Bacon can be considered as the manifestation of the fact that the speculation of the Renaissance finished its part in the history of European culture; it was also suppressed in the religious sphere in the course of the ideological and organisational struggle between Reformation and counter-Reformation. However, Plato's philosophical legacy was not dependent on the Renaissance, although the Renaissance greatly assisted in spreading it, and in later times also it repeatedly proved itself a living element of philosophy, science and art.
