Abstract

The lost common language symbolized by the Tower of Babel, addressed in the preceding chapter in terms of the results of miscommunication and human folly, is not just a myth or art form. This chapter constructs a naturalistic framework for Tarot edusemiotics. There is a continuing debate in contemporary cognitive science about the so-called Mentalese language as a system of primitive extra-linguistic signs which are hardwired in humans and which serve as tools for understanding, meaning making and creating new complex concepts. The semiotic, pre-verbal level precedes the symbolic or linguistic one.
