A beacon to the present study is the conviction that the critical examination of the problems posed by religious faith, and the rational investigation of religious ori­gins, representations, beliefs and practices are not mere isolated philosophical episodes but topics whose conceptual exploration is demanded by the peculiar kind of philosophizing Hume undertakes.
