Eidetics, existence, and experience
pp. 57-68
Abstract
This chapter is meant to make the transition from one focus to another somewhat different one. So far, after the first chapter which simply states the basic level of enquiry and the problems aimed at in this work, we have attempted to dwell for the most part on the different modes of pure reflection which Ricœur employs in the first levels of his philosophy of the will. This chapter will conclude that level and attempt to lay the foundation for and make the transition to the various problems which he feels he must confront on a different front in his attempt to work through his hermeneutics of symbols. We shall attempt to deal with his different treatments as he confronted them, and the various detours which distracted him from completing the initial project. However, this is not an attempt to render a rigorous history of the development of his thought, since that would not allow us to remain focused on our project of explicitating his developments and extensions, and then returning to the initial project.
