Abstract

Alexius Meinong began studying German philology and history at the University of Vienna in 1870.1 In 1874 (the year in which Brentano began as a professor in Vienna) Meinong completed a dissertation on Arnold von Brescia and did his minor examination in philosophy with Brentano. In Brentano Meinong found someone from whom he could immensely benefit in the study of philosophy. Shortly after their encounter Meinong independently decided to pursue philosophy as a career.
