Response to Dallmayr

Kenneth Liberman

pp. 393-398

Abstract

I am grateful to Prof. Dallmayr for his comments, and also for all of the tutoring he has provided me in his books and in his addresses at the two societies1 over the last three decades. Regrettably, philosophically trained social scientists like Fred Dallmayr are a rare breed. Moreover, Prof. Dallmayr understands what Orientalism really is, by witnessing first-hand the damage it has inflicted, and so his assessment of how my ethnomethodological strategies might remedy or fail to remedy the intractable problems of colonialist social scientific research in Asia are extremely valuable.
